“What we have, we will share.” This is what drives the operation of OSHaRE. Owen Sound Hunger and Relief Effort (OSHaRE) is a community meal program located in downtown Owen Sound. We have been serving our community and surrounding area since 2013. OSHaRE receives no government support; it is funded by donations, grants and fundraising. The Walk for OSHaRE is our biggest fundraiser of the year. It helps to support all our programs, including our Community Meals, School Lunches, Family Assist Meals, Supportive Outreach Service Meals, and our food rescue program Grey Bruce Food Share.
In 2023, we shared 146,625 community meals, 9667 school lunches, and rescued and distributed 271,193lbs of good surplus food from local businesses. We have seen a large increase in the number of families needing assistance in 2024.
The Walk for OSHaRE in-person walk provides an opportunity for individuals, families, businesses, and groups to come together and walk 5km through Owen Sound (2 different routes) and then back to OSHaRE. The in-person walk will begin at OSHaRE (946 3rd Ave. E. Owen Sound) on September 20th starting at 4pm (registration at 3:30pm). Following the walk there will be a thank you reception and tours at OSHaRE and Grey Bruce Food Share.
If you are unable to attend on September 20th, but you would still like to support OSHaRE by walking, you can do the Virtual Walk for OSHaRE. The virtual walk provides an opportunity for individuals, families, businesses, or groups to walk when they want, and where they want during the week of September 13th-27th, 2024.
You can sign up for either the virtual walk or the in-person walk at OSHaRE (946 3rd Ave. E. Owen Sound) or click the link below.
With the increased need in our community and the rising costs of food and resources we need your help, please consider walking with us.
